Amberlyn Clark, one of the ”reference girls” drafted by Garcia — with whom she also appears to have been involved — served as witness for the Jane Does and revealed how she had been coached on how to talk to the prospective women, including lying and withholding information. She also said that she could get bonuses for recruiting ”Grade A” women, in an internal rating they had that went from A to D. A little-explored element of the GirlsDoPorn story is that the company’s recruitment narrative, now playing out as testimony in both civil and criminal forums, itself is an integral part of the brand. Growing awareness of GirlsDoPorn appears to have spiked around 2014, at around the time its fan forum, supervised by Pratt and his employees as a crucial source of feedback on models and content, was launched.

According to the women who appeared in GirlsDoPorn videos, Garcia pressured them into filmed sex acts and lied about the true nature of the shoot. Chapin said that among other harassment tactics, altered photographs of the attorneys “that didn’t hold us up in a very good light” were posted online during the civil case. In mid-2019, around the same time the civil case went to trial, “Wolfe and Pratt hired [Foster] to create and edit a video titled ’22 Whores and 5 Shady Lawyers,’” according to Foster’s plea agreement.

I was paying attention when I was hearing news articles about pornography or the porn industry, and there were particular articles at the end of 2019 that caught my attention. Around the same time, the London Sunday Times had done an investigation, and they found dozens of illegal videos on the site within minutes, even children as young as 3 years old. Judge Enright ruled that all of these factors made the women’s nominal consent meaningless. The contracts were unenforceable because the women were induced to sign them by fraud and coercion.

From approximately 2013 to 2017, Garcia worked as a recruiter, producer, and actor for the GDP and GDT websites, which grossed millions of dollars during this time. Garcia knew the videos were being posted on the fee-based websites, GDP and GDT, and excerpts were posted on free pornographic sites such as Pornhub.com, one of the most frequently viewed websites in the world receiving millions of views, to drive paying viewers to GDP and GDT. The lawsuit that was brought forward by the 22 women in 2017 included similar harrowing stories, such as being “assaulted”. This previous lawsuit resulted in Girls Do Porn being ordered to pay $12.8m in damages as well as ownership rights to the videos they featured in. Between October and November 2019, six people were charged on counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion, with a further two people charged in December with obstruction of sex trafficking enforcement. The amended complaint brings the total number of plaintiffs up to 50, all filing anonymously  as Jane Does.

The websites generated millions of dollars in revenue and the videos were viewed millions of times. Most of the videos created as a part of the conspiracy were shot at hotels or short-term rental units in the San Diego area. If one of the victims agreed to act in the pornographic video, Garcia and his co-conspirators promptly booked flights to San Diego within a day or two to limit the chances that the victim would change her mind.

The 22 plaintiffs, known individually only as Jane Doe, alleged that Girls Do Porn owners Michael James Pratt and Matthew Isaac Wolfe lured them to San Diego to shoot sexually explicit content by posting Craigslist ads for “beautiful college type preppy girls” needed for photo shoots. Following a nearly three-month civil trial, a judge has awarded $12.75 million to 22 women who claim they were tricked into shooting explicit sexual content by producers for the website GirlsDoPorn.com. The FBI is currently seeking to arrest former co-owner of Girls Do Porn, Michael James Pratt, who allegedly coerced young women into filming sexually explicit content for the site.

Garcia and other members of the conspiracy took active steps to ensure the victims did not find out that he and the other members of the conspiracy operated GDP and GDT. Garcia knew that most of the young women they were recruiting would have never agreed to appear in a video if they knew that videos of their explicit sexual activity would be posted on the internet and marketed to their friends and family. Wolfe was sentenced in October 2022 for admitting to coercing prospective models into filming videos for Girls Do Porn, then lying to them saying the videos would not be distributed in the United States, says the Attorney’s Office.
